Confidence Because of Jesus

“in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” – Ephesians 3:12 NKJ

Access through Jesus

Because Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins, the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world, we have direct access to God.  There is no need to sacrifice lambs, goats, or turtledoves once a year for the hopes of being forgiven of our sins.  We do not need someone else to do our praying for us because Jesus is “our Great High Priest.”  When Jesus died on the Cross, the veil which separated God’s presence from us was torn from top to bottom.  And for some reason, some of us live our entire Christian life not believing this beautiful truth.  Maybe because of how they were raised, their childhood experiences, it could be difficult to believe that the God in heaven is so loving that we can come to Him.  But it’s nonetheless true.

We have a loving and forgiving Heavenly Father who loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to take our punishment for our sins.  And having a relationship with Jesus, we are forgiven and given access to God’s presence – the Creator of the universe!  From praying to Him when our kids get sick, to praying to Him for the healing of a loved one with cancer, or to lovingly worship Him in our living rooms, we have direct access to God our Father, the Maker of heaven and earth.

So there is no need to be scared about coming to God with a prayer request.  There is no need stress out worrying if our prayers are “good enough,” or “worded correctly.”  It has nothing to do with us and everything to do with Jesus and having a relationship with Him.  HE is our High-level security access to the presence of God.  The “below your pay grade,” phrase does not apply because we are ALL BELOW THE PAY GRADE in comparison to God Almighty!  Yet, He sent His Son ANYWAY in order to give the access which Adam and Eve ruined in the beginning.

True Confidence

This verse speaks volumes to me.  I am immediately drawn to, “access with confidence.”  Often times confidence gets mistaken for arrogance.  And I can understand why.  During my journey with Jesus, I’ve experienced people who had certain gifts and abilities who would look down their noses at me and others who because we didn’t have the same gifts or abilities.  They would strut around church in such a way that said, “I am better than you.”

And there are those who are confident in the way they look – thin, fit, muscular.  Also, there is the #BodyPositivity crowd – confident in their larger body size and not being ashamed of the cellulite.  Personally, I love that.  I wish this crowd had been around when I was growing up.

However, the confidence this Bible verse is talking about has nothing to do with any human ability.  Furthermore, it’s not talking about having confidence in the amount of faith we have, which I have seen in the church, too.  Nope.  The confidence spoken of in this verse comes from the faith and trust we place in Jesus and His finished work on the Cross, and all the comes with it: being joint heirs, being made children of God, etc.

I know I keep saying this but it bears repeating, confidence in Jesus and everything He’s done for us has nothing to do with our ability to have confidence in Him, nor about the AMOUNT of faith we have.  It’s all about Jesus and placing our trust, in Him and all that He has ALREADY DONE which gives us the confidence that we are worthy to talk to God and enter into His presence.

But now here comes the catch, are we willing to allow ourselves to believe it?
