But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Hebrews 3:6
Today is Day 1 of the series #HolyConfidence, and I’m so excited!
I’m going to start things off the way I normally do and take a few synonyms of each word and put them together and see if that helps us further understand their meaning.
Holy– sacred, consecrated, sanctified
Confidence– trust, faith, conviction
Of course after we play with some of the word pairings to enhance meanings:
“sacred faith”
“sanctified conviction”
“consecrated trust” (oh I really like this one!)
Now we’ll review the verse of the day and pull out the greek word for confidence in the verse.
the word “confidence” in this verse comes from the word, “parrésia” which refers to openness, boldness, publicly.
So we hold firmly to our “boldness/openness” and the hope in which we glory.
Confidence isn’t just something we need to hold onto, but something we need live out.
How do you live out your confidence?
This confidence we have is because we are God’s house. I’m going to pull the greek words for son (faithful), house, hope, and glory so we can paint a better picture of us as God’s house and what our hope has to do with our confidence.
(son) faithful– “huios” refers directly to Christ as the Son. The Son not only as directly from the Father, but the Son as a direct imprint of the faithfulness of God. In other words, Christ’s faithfulness demonstrated through the Father.
house– “oikos” refers to physical house or dwelling, but also means lineage or nation.
hope– “elpis” is our trust or expectation.
glory– “telos”- end, consummation, closure
Ok, I think we are ready to pull some these words together.
We are Christ’s nation IF (yep, that means we play a role on making our “house” and “home”) we hold onto our trust and conviction (confidence) in Christ AND the expectation that allows us to “live with the end in mind” (glory).
Holy Confidence in this way is living from your inheritance from a co-heir with Christ.
This confidence we hold onto is only possible through Christ inside of us, activating our awareness that, just like the song “No Longer Slaves” by Bethel music tells us,
we are no longer slaves to fear, but we are children of God
If we compare the confidence we have through Christ to out earthly confidence we see that out earthly confidence is based solely on our own talents and abilities; whereas our holy confidence is made possible through Christ dwelling within us giving us “keys to kingdom” so to speak that make us children of God.
I’m sure as we dig into this series further we will unpack more the difference between earthly confidence and holy confidence.
For now, I’ll leave you with a reflection question:
How do we live out the conviction we have through our confidence in Christ?
I’ll also leave you with a list of other scriptures that you can look-up to further your study.
Additional Verses For Study:
Ephesians 1:11-14
Titus 3:7
Colossians 1:12
1 Peter 1:3-12
Where is Titus this is new to me?

Hi Jane, Titus is a book in the bible located in the new testament. It is after 2 Timothy and before the book of Philemon. I hope this answers your question, thanks!
