Stand Firm Forever

design (48)

When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone,
but the righteous stand firm forever. Proverbs 10:25

The wicked are overthrown and are no more,
but the house of the righteous stands firm. Proverbs 12:7

We will be looking at two different verses in Proverbs today to talk about the wicked vs. the righteous.

It is not so much about who are the wicked people, but more about the activities they engage in:

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  2 Timothy 3:2-4

18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. Ephesians 4:18-19

The wicked are separated from Christ, either by sin or by ignorance.

Whereas the righteous people know God and live according to His ways.

21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. Romans 8:10

17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[e] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[fRomans 1:17

The interesting thing about righteousness is apart from God we can not be righteousness. It is only through the Holy Spirit in us that we are righteousness before God.

This means that everything we strive to do to be a better person or do the right thing is nothing more than “filthy rags”

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. Isiah 64:6

So going back to the first verses in Proverbs:

When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone,
but the righteous stand firm forever. Proverbs 10:25

The wicked are overthrown and are no more,
but the house of the righteous stands firm. Proverbs 12:7

What do you see in these verses? What do they tell you about the righteousness?

To me they show the victory we have in Christ, and everything will fall short.

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

I know there are alot of verses in today’s post, but I feel it is important to note that these are not my own ideas, they come directly from the word of God.

So stay righteous and stand firm! (If this topic interests you, I invite you to check out this post that I did two years ago on God’s righteousness and our faithfulness.
