I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. Psalm 89:2
Up until this point we’ve talked mostly about how WE stand firm, and now I want to talk to about how GOD stands firm.
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant,
4 ‘I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations.’”[c]
5 The heavens praise your wonders, Lord,
your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
6 For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?
7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared;
he is more awesome than all who surround him.
8 Who is like you, Lord God Almighty?
You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
What does it mean that God stands firm?
“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” Colossians 1:17
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’ Isiah 46:10
The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth,
in the seas and all their depths. Psalm 135:6
God stands firm in His promise to us and His purpose for us by His love in us.
What is His promise?
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
15 and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalm 50:15
What is His purpose?
21 For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man. 2 Corinthians 8:21
2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. 1 Peter 1:2
God stands firm in His faithfulness. Not because He needs us, but because He loves us.
Reflecting on who God is really helps puts everything is perspective!
