Stand Firm In One Spirit

design (29)

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit,[astriving together as one for the faith of the gospel.

Philippians 1:27

As we dive into this verse, I can’t help but think how timely this verse is with everything currently going on in our nation. (I promise not to get political here, but just commenting on how divided we are as Americans, and lamenting as the body of Christ that is suffering)

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.

Paul knows that we will get offended at some point. We will get angry at some point, but the instruction is to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. In every word we say or type, every action we commit, we need to do so in light of the gospel.

This means we let go of seeking justice. We let go of  plotting revenge. We let go of harshness and bitterness that will eventually strangle us.

Instead we are called to establish a firm faith foundation united in one spirit, no matter how hard life gets.

Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit,[a]striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

The world today wants us to follow ourselves, our own pursuit of happiness and our own understanding, but we are instead called to follow ONE person and ONE faith.

I am an the way the truth the life, no one comes to the Father ,except through me. John 14:6

This view goes against everything that modern society stands for. Society tells us that if it’s your belief then that’s right for you and that ok because it’s not hurting anyone.

But the bible clearly tells us that’s not the case. Standing firm in one Spirit means that we hold tight to our faith, even when it differs from popular opinion (which of course is most of the time). But we know by looking at Jesus through the bible that he wasn’t well received all of the time, but doing the right thing isn’t always the easy thing.

Standing firm isn’t rigidly holding on to our own ideas, but it’s clinging to the faith that the gospel is real and living from that truth.

How do you stand firm in the Spirit and strive together as one? What does that look like in our everyday lives? That, my dear friends is something that I encourage you to seek the help of the Holy Spirit to answer today! My answer is below, I’d love to hear from you also!
