Fruit of Faithfulness Series: Day 14

Proverbs 16:1-6

To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.

All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives are weighed by the Lord.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.

The Lord works out everything to its proper end—
even the wicked for a day of disaster.

The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided.

This Proverb is discussing so many of the thing I’ve talked about this week, including having a divided heart and seeking justice for those that have wronged you.

All a person’s ways seem pure to them but motives are weighed by the Lord. Psalm 16:2

I love this because so many times we think we are doing what we should be doing, but if we are just going through the motions then we are suffering from a divided heart. We can see ourselves as doing something for the right reason, but when we are wrapped up in our own world looking from our own perspective our motives can become unclear.

This is why we look to the Lord to direct us and make clear our motives.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3

We are know that whatever happens, whoever comes against us, that they have to answer to God in the end.

The Lord works out everything to its proper end—even the wicked for a day of disaster. The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished Proverbs 16:4-5

God doesn’t give us what we deserve. He gives us what we don’t deserve.

If it was up to us we would live an easy live, but would it be a righteous life. We have to walk in the path laid for us pain and all so that we can grow.

Those that wrong us will answer to God. Those that we wrong we will account for.

Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided. Proverbs 16:6

Through the love and faithfulness by God through the blood of Jesus our sin is atoned for.

Let that sink in. Nothing you did, are doing or will do will put you in right standing with God. Only Jesus.

It was all by the blood of Jesus. (cue music)

To discuss the fear of the Lord means to have reverence for. We fear the Lord not because we are afraid of Him. We fear Him because we put Him in his proper standing, righteous and sovereign over us.

Because we have this faithfulness in Him and Him in us, we are made perfect through Jesus.

The last part of the verse above means when you have reverence and awe for the Lord evil is thwarted. It is by having reverence for God and His sovereignty that we are able to obey His commands.

Daily challenge:
Do you have a fear of the Lord?  How do you see God’s sovereignty in your own life?
Take some time to pray and ask God to show His sovereignty to you.
God is in control so we don’t have to be.
If you are still keeping your notebook (which I really hope you are) note the ways in which God reveals this to you and the ways that you express your fear of the Lord to yourself, to God and others around you.
Be loyal and faithful, and God will forgive your sin. Obey the Lord and nothing evil will happen to you. Proverbs 16:6 (GNT)
